Princess Jasmine Sundress

I just finished this adorable sundress for Tatyana, based on the aforementioned Hot Hot Heat dress I saw on BurdaStyle. I used a twin sized fitted sheet that used to be her Aunt Kristine’s. I am going to also make a similar dress for her baby doll. I still need to take pictures of the last baby doll dress I made. I also need to take pictures of Tatyana in this dress, which I will do on Saturday.

I couldn’t get good light in the house & it’s windy today, so the pictures do not do it justice.

The back has a full seperating zipper. Perfect for her, since she is picky(or lazy) and hates pulling on anything or pulling anything down over her head.

This is a close up of the bust detail. Obviously since she is only 8 there isn’t much ruching. I added cute flowery trim with lace & an orange heart button.

I love it!!

Spring Top Week

It’s Spring Top Week over at Made By Rae, which is perfect really, since I have been trying to make a top for about a week now with no sucess. First I tried to make a variation of this dress, and although the bust came out perfectly (following the how-to), the rest kind of just fell apart. I tried adding sleeves, which wasn’t so great. Straps are do-able, sleeves were not. It just didn’t look right. Then I tried to make a Spring Ruffle Top following this tutorial, and it came out super big on me (I followed the directions to a tee!) so I threw it in my “I’ll maybe fix this someday” pile & searched for a more figure flattering top that I could make in light fabrics & maybe be able to alter if I like it a lot, so I can make a lot of the same shirt.

Of course, this usually means buying a pattern. Free plus-size patterns are few and far between. So I headed on over to BurdaStyle, where I fell in love with the Shakira dress.

This dress can easily be altered into a tunic, and if I make it in nice airy fabrics, it will be the best spring top, ever!

My visit to the Original Sewing & Quilting Expo AND The Best T-Shirt Recon EVER!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of attending the Orginal Sewing & Quilting Expo in Worcester, Massachusetts. I must say that I can not thank Joe’s mom enough for bringing me. I am so happy that I got to spend the day with her, chatting & learning all sorts of new things!

I was amazed at the amount of talent displayed at the Expo. The quilts were amazing, and made me even more intimitated to dive into quilting (or even dabble for that matter).
We went to a stage presentation called Sweatshirt Projects: Jackets and More
with Connie Spurlock of Sew Wonderful Dreams. This presentation inspired me and I am (eventually) going to try to make a sweatshirt jacket. Two awesome things about a sweatshirt jacket: All raw edges & you’d never even know it was a sweatshirt!

I even got a free sweatshirt for signing up to be a Bone Marrow Donor at the show!

We also took a class called Fit To Be Tied with Jo Lee Tarbell of My Cozy Cottage. Instead of giving us a tie & a quilt block pattern like she usually does, she gave us a copy of her new book, also called Fit To Be Tied. It was really neat seeing all of the things you can do with ties!

I also got to briefly talk to Jennifer Stern, who is also a contributor to Craft Stylish, which is where I saw the best T-Shirt Recon EVER!
Who knew crocheting into fabric could be so easy.

Shania’s School Bag

My niece, Shania, asked me if I could make her a school bag for her birthday. She asked if it could be blue & black, and have a skull on it.
Here’s what I made:

I used quilt batting in between the outside & lining because the blue fabric was super light & I had no interfacing (or money for more).
The inside has a big multi-pocket:

Also, I finished Tatyana’s big chibi bunny & her doll dress! Here’s all the bunnies together:

I will post a picture of the doll dress once it’s on the doll. 🙂

Brandie’s Birthday Apron

I finished it just in time for her party & she loved it!!
birfday-002
This apron is all recycled materials. The white is a sheet. The black ruffle on the skirt and binding on the bodice is from a men’s dress shirt. The blue on the bodice and the lace on the bodice & pocket are from 2 of my old shirts, the black ruffles on the bodice are tights, & there’s a pretty piece of a broken necklace attached.

She loved it so much, she wore it all night. And she looked absolutely darling in it, too.

Spring Sewing!

It’s April! And that means warmer weather, birthdays, & Easter!
I am going to try to make many projects this month. I want to make a fancy, frilly 50’s style apron for my friend Brandie’s birthday(which is in 3 days). I also want to make my niece Shania a requested school bag for her birthday. Then it’s my birthday on the 10th & Easter on the 12th! Plus I still need to finish a drawstring backpack for one of Tatyana’s friend’s, finish a doll dress(and attempt to make more doll clothes) for Tatyana’s baby, and make a pocketbook for a very awesome friend. (I have not forgotten about you Micki!)

I just made these cuties up using this .pdf pattern from My Little Mochi which I never would’ve found without the great ladies over at Sew, Mama, Sew.

I think I’m going to make up 2 more of these little ones for my 4 nieces & I want to make a bigger one for Miss Tatyana. I’m also thinking about making some of these fabric Easter eggs from Retro Mama. I also found those on Sew, Mama, Sew via this Easter tutorials post!
